Founded in 1955, we are an employee-owned firm that remains true to our founders’ vision of integrating architecture, engineering, interiors, and site design to provide a single source of creative and technical expertise for our clients. We are based in Cambridge, MA and Providence, RI. 
 
In 2022, SMMA was named by Engineering News Record as the #1 ranked design firm in New England for K-12 school projects by revenue. Over the past 20 years, our K-12 practice has conducted over 40 K-12 master plans and feasibility studies. We have programmed and designed more than 60 schools totaling over 8,800,000 square feet and over $2.5 billion of construction. These experiences have seen us build an intellectual capital that benefits all our partners in K-12 design and planning projects.
